Some of you might be familiar with Joe Florenski's website dedicated to Paul Lynde. He and Steve Wilson have written a biography of Lynde which they call Center Square, and it's in bookstores now. As most of you know, there was a lot more to Lynde's career than Hollywood Squares zingers, but his time on the show is well represented, and the rest of his career is just as fascinating. It's warts-and-all (Paul had a nasty side) but not malicious, the authors obviously have a quirky fondness for their subject. I recommend it highly.

If they interviewed Merrill Heatter for this book it would be all the more worth buying. It would be mega worth buying if they interviewed Jerry Shaw, Heatter-Quigley's long-time director who was very well regarded by the surly crews at NBC (a feat in itself) and who made no secret about being gay.

It would have been tough to get Jerome to do an interview these days, as he died in 1999 or 2000, according to a 2000 interview Chris Jaunsen did with the late 70s High Rollers hostess Becky Price.

There are no Social Security death records for Jerome D. Shaw and the DGA still lists him as a member, so someone needs to update Becky Price.

The always-reliable Internet Movie Database not only has no listing that Mr. Shaw ever died, but doesn't even say whether or not he was even born. Plus, they claim the title of the ABC game show he directed was called The Hot Seat. If people were gunned down at sunrise for doing faulty research, this would be a lonely planet indeed.

Neither Heatter nor Shaw are listed in the index. I imagine it's possible they're mentioned in the text, the index tends to be a name-dropping list of stars more than anything else.
