Full Version: Classic SNL on NBC

If your local NBC station is carrying reruns of old Saturday Night Live episodes [in their entirety] at 1 am or later on Sunday morning, you might want to watch this weekend's edition.

It's Steve Martin's first appearance as guest host, from Oct. 23, 1976. A sketch during the first half hour, following Steve's monologue, is the classic Jeopardy! 1999, with Steve as "Art F114", Dan Aykroyd as "Danny M125", Laraine Newman as "Laraine A270", Chevy Chase as "Lee P413" [all of them sporting silver afros and Star Trek-type clothes], and Don Pardo as himself.

The original J! had already been off the air for over 1½ years at that time, so no one, not even Don Pardo himself, would have thought Jeopardy! would be on again in 1999.

I wonder if Ken J2525 is enjoying his Rhesus monkey torture kit.

Don Pardo also probably would never have thought he'd still have the same job in 1999.

I believe it actually was "COMEDIAN WHO'S CAREER FIZZLED AFTER LEAVING NBC'S SATURDAY NIGHT." (They really didn't incorporate the "Saturday Night Live" name until 1980.)

And now to get out of my Zach Horan-like moment, I saw the clip not only on the special taped on NBC years back, but also on a tape released around the same time. Only problem is that stock music is used a few times to replace the music that was actually used, and it kinda hurts the experience. Nothing extremely major, though.

You might have been off a bit, because the name change from NBC's Saturday Night to Saturday Night Live, its original working title, came in 1977. [In the fall of 1975, about a month before NBC's SNL premiered, ABC debuted something called Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell, which was cancelled by the beginning of 1976.]
