I know some of us host game shows at get-togethers or at school or work. Does anybody have any funny stories they want to share, like funny answers?

Hosting Jeopardy! at my school...

Category: Women's Wear
Clue: During WWII, women painted these on, drawing in seams with an eyebrow pencil.
Contestant response: What are pants?
Correct response: What are nylon stockings.


Category: H2O
Clue: It refers to a sloshy sleeping experience.
Contestant response: What is a wet dream?
Correct response: What is a waterbed.

If you ask me, the contestant's answer was better than the real one.

Several years ago I hosted a show at work that I created. The short explanation is that panelists were supposed to come up with answers to questions about odd or interesting facts. (There was more to it, but you get the drift.) There were many funny responses (all of which were entirely spontaneous; we follow the G-T, not H-Q, method) over the three years that I did this, but one stands head and shoulders above the rest because of the way it brought down the house.

Question: Why does a farmer force a calf to swallow a magnet?
Panelist's Answer: To make it stick to the refrigerator.

The real answer: To collect the bits of metal that the animal will ingest over the years in order to prevent them from tearing up its digestive tract. When the animal is butchered, the metal, attached to the magnet, will be removed and sold for scrap.

On a less uprorarious note, no matter what home version I'm hosting with my family, my dad invariably refers to me as "Chuck."

Oh, lord. LOL.



Agreed. If it weren't stipulated earlier that the word "water" itself would either be in the clue or the response, we probably would've counted it correct.

That reminds me of another...

Category: Name Calling In Other Words (ex: Ventriloquist's sidekick = Dummy. Almond occupation = Nutjob.)
Clue: Fowl Cranium.
Correct response: What is birdbrain?
Contestant's response: What is peckerhead?

We later gave her credit for this response. :)

Hosting a 20 questions ripoff called "The Fame Game" (oh yeah, we ripped the name off too), a teacher gave me this:

Host: "...I work the streets, you can come and see me late at night..."
Teach: prostitute

...not all that funny in and off itself, but his frantic attempts to get that part of the tape erased so his 5th graders didn't see him say prostitute was great stuff. Why I expected 5th graders to know who David Letterman was in the first place I'll never figure out.

I run Charades tournaments at game conventions in Los Angeles. One player drew the phrase "Uncle Tom's Cabin." The clock was started and the player signaled to his teammates "novel." Then, he pointed at me. One of his teammates guessed, "The Black Stallion."

Man, that's Paul-Lynde-SCRIPTED funny.

A local actor here in Durham hosted Family Feud at my church. The question was "name something a husband borrows from his wife." One guy sat in apparent deep thought for a while...then said "underwear."
