Looks like some sort of hacking to me.

This thread should explain what's going on.

For those of us who don't want to plow through fifteen pages of guesswork and presumptions by people who don't know what they're talking about (I could only get as far as page three), could someone give us a succinct recap? Is it really a hacking job or is it a game the moderators are playing?

To make a long story short, a friend of someone who was banned from Golden-road.net hacked the site. He did very little harm, other than posting bizarre pictures on the frontpage (first a pic of the "deranged clown" from a recent showcase, then one of Alexander Graham Bell, then one of a Polish school commencement ceremony) all while making vague threats about the site's future. Last night, the site moderators found out his IP address, and had him banned. That pretty much sums it up.

That was perfect, Dane. Thanks.

No problem, glad I could help :)

Yeah Matt, I was going to say the same thing, forget reading 200+ messages to actually find out WTF happened.

Thanks

Here's an update about the Golden Road hacking incident, for those who haven't been there yet today (10/22) -- the "clown" who "hacked" the site is none other than the webmasters themselves. Since it is close to halloween, they pulled the "hacking" stunt to announce some very rare Price Is Right items coming to the site during the Holiday season -- something Price fans have been waiting for for years.

And the starter of the thread about it over there was someone who is famous around here for believing anything he's told.

In Adam's defense, Marc told him to start the thread.

Hey, sometimes when you're trying to deceive people, you work with people who will believe anything.

Not only that, but I'm sure Adam has a similar reputation there as he does here, so using him to "plant" information is an ingenious way of keeping their members guessing as to what the truth is. Heck, even if Adam were to say that he was told to start the rumor, who'd believe him?

Cute gimmick, but for the record, it's not something we'd ever do.

I hope nobody from WKAR is reading this thread. Otherwise, we're giving them ideas for the next pledge drive.

I've got another idea as well......."If we don't meet our pledge goal here at WKAR, we'll shave Matt's head!"

Oh, wait, on second thought, that may not work...........;)

A lesser moderator -- or one with hair -- would ban you for that!
