I got this from the Radio & Records site; and the man in question shares ONE distinction with a classic GS host:

Voiceover Legend Danny Dark Dies.

Dark, who during his career served as the voice of the NBC and CBS television networks and of Budweiser, Texaco, AT&T, Keebler and countless other national brands, died Sunday. He was 65. Dark's career began in radio, at KICK/Springfield, MO in the 1950s, and he went on to work at such stations as WIL/St. Louis and KLAC/Los Angeles. His distinctive voice was heard on more award-winning commercials than any announcer in broadcast history. He also supplied the voice of Clark Kent and Superman in the '70s animated series Super Friends.

Which was the same role that game show legend Bud Collyer held forth on radio and in cartoons. Hence, the 'common bond.'

Cordially,
Tammy Warner--the 'Fannie Flagg of the Big Board!'

Didn't he also announce a game show? The name sounds very familiar. I think he was replaced by Ernie Anderson on the show he did.

A quick yahoo search reveals he announced Dream Girl USA in 1986, strangely enough, there is no mention of Ernie Anderson being on that show. Check that after looking him up on yahoo, IMDB, where I found all the info does show him announcing for Dream Girl USA.
Jimmy Owen
Danny Dark and Ernie Anderson appeared in "Tunnelvision," which also featured "The Fun Factory" regular Betty Thomas in a game show spoof hosted by Sam Riddle.

What a loss. Especially sad as Danny passed on the heels of the other voices recently silenced. Danny was only about 65 years old.

Danny was universally liked, and his work universally respected among his fellow voicers. He had a wonderful gift for credibility and intimacy on some of his best reads. I know how he was considered family at NBC where he was the voice of the net for many years. He would arrive during Christmas season with gifts for everybody in the on-air promo department.

Like many, Danny came from the ranks of radio where it seems his path crossed with just about everyone - he was one or two degrees of separation from so many talented icons. My best recollection was the night of great stories and unbridled laughter he shared with Gary Owens when they joined a group of us for dinner a few years ago.

You are sure to recognize the voice from this classic aircheck even though it is 40 years old:

Danny Dark is probably the archetype for those promos of sitcom episodes with a serious twist. Hence, "a very special 'Facts Of Life'".
