Do any students actually use the scholarships that are offered to the winning team?

From what I've been told of the last three teams, no. I know that no one from the 2000 team took it and from what the Hartford coach said at a tournament this past weekend (they've won the last two and lost in the first round this year because they mis-remembered their game day :-) ) it looks like no one took it.

Our very informal research suggests that about 40% of the students end up using the scholarships. It varies from year to year, but Joe's right that more recently, we've had fewer students taking advantage of the offer.
Lots of seniors on winning teams have already made college plans, and not surprisingly, those super-sharp students in many cases already have other scholarships. The one thing we really don't know is how many students choose MSU at least in part because they win a scholarship, and how many were planning to go to MSU anyway and just got a nice bonus.

Out of curiosity, how much are these scholarships worth?
(I knew of a program that gave out a $100 scholarship...)

Then these would be more.
Grand Champions receive offers of a full year's tuition to Michigan State University (provided they meet some minimal qualifications). They're ONLY for MSU, though, no transfering. Runners-up each get one year's worth of book scholarships from the MSU book store, which obviously are each worth a few hundred bucks as well.
