Bob Eubanks, the man who went from promoting Beatle concerts to hosting such fave game shows as Card Sharks, Dream House, Trivia Trap, and of course The Newlywed Game, is 66(!) years young today!

BTW, Bob is connected with two other TV hosts who also have birthdays today. One is Shindig host Jimmy O'Neill, who worked with Bob at KRLA in the early 1960s. The other is the late Mike Darrow, who hosted the ORIGINAL Dream House from 1968-70.

Happy birthday to all three hosts! (And a SWAK! for each one!)

Cordially,
Tammy Warner--the 'Elaine Fulkerson of the Big Board!'

I'll have to celebrate the day by watching "Roger and Me" again. Hehee.

Well, it's better than Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

Happy Birthday Bob! I think I'll watch an episode of Trivia Trap with you tonight! :)

I didn't know Mike Darrow passed away....when did this happen? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I really didn't know this happened......

Speaking of Bob Eubanks, he WAS in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York.

He played the host of a game show called the "Ding-Dang-Dong" show.

Ant the set of that game show was in reality for WGN's $100,000 Fortune Hunt.

Why is nobody honoring Eubanks' brilliant work on The Diamond Head Game? :-)

Which, and I'm taking a wild guess here, might be why Jason brought it up in the first place.

That wasn't just a wild guess, Robert. That's exactly why I brought it up. BTW, I almost posted Bob's Plaza Hotel fee plug from said movie, but I don't recall the whole thing offhand.

ObRobert: Bob gets very testy if you call him Robert.

Well, hey, you're in Hawaii with Jane Nelson and getting paid for it. Little things like program quality can be forgiven at this point. :)

Yep. And I recall one of the early episodes of 1986 CS (You know, the Pre-Car Game Days), in which the following conversation got everyone into laughter:

Bob: Tracy.

Contestant: Bobby.

Bob (as camera zooms in on his face): Don't EVER call me Bobby.

Contestant: OK, Robert.

Bob (as camera zooms in on his face AGAIN): Don't EVER call me Robert.

"Guests of The New Celebrity Ding-Dang-Dong stay at the world-renowned Plaza Hotel, NY's most exciting hotel experience. For reservations, call toll-free 1-800-759-3000."

Also of note is that the fictitious CDDD used the gameboard from Illinois' old lottery GS, $100K Fortune Hunt, and the celebrities featured were GS favorites Rip Taylor, Jaye P. Morgan, and Jimmie Walker.

A similar reaction came when a contestant dared to call Ben Stein "Benny" on the infamous 1999 WBSM ep where Ben and Jimmy switched roles. :-)
