This webhost promises unlimited bandwidth, but I'm not taking any huge risks. Until I obtain my own domain name later this month (or early January), there will be no more than 10 (
MAYBE 12) clips up at a time as opposed to the 20+ that were up previously.
8 clips are currently up and a couple more will be added later in the day. Highlights include 3 full length bonus rounds (Go, Now You See It, and Bullseye) along with the 4 intros that received the most votes.
The results of the latter indicates that we have some reeeeeeally interesting tastes held by a good number of visitors.
Anyhoo, the link is

This is much appreciated, esp. with you having to go out of your way to find another provider. Thanks, and good luck with finding a new home for your page.

Jamie,
How awesome you are.
That was good quick work.
I didn't expect to see that page back in operation until sometime in early 2004.
Well done, young man. You truly are a Cool Brit Guy. Cheers to you! And thanks.

Wow.
I love GO. I've never seen the bonus round (I have seen Chain Reaction's, but GO takes it to another level). But that was very tension filled and amazing.
Also, seeing a Strike It Rich intro was interesting. There are no webpages on the show, and I thought that it was pretty obscure. The show looks nice, but of course that means nothing.
I do have a question... I unfortunately was one of the people who wasn't able to see the pilots during the holidays. Are you going to put them back up? If not, couuld we work a deal?

Sure, why not. We've Got Your Number, 21, Beat the Odds, Dollar a Second, & Caught in the Act are being uploaded as we speak. I actually signed up for two accounts, for no good reason really, so with that second account I'll be creating a second page with those 5 pilots just in case y'all missed them the first time around. Call it "Feast of Leftovers," if you will.

Am I the only one who found it ironic that as high-tech as Bullseye was, they still chryoned the eggcrate for the win totals, looking primitive and cheap.
Speaking of which, how did that work? Did the cameraman simply focus on the shot of a regular eggcrate display, then find a way to get it superimposed on-screen, kind of like during sports matches, minus the black background?

Say, I just checked out the site. I love it! Especially that GO! & NYSI clips (for I've never seen GO! before or Narz's NYSI [but I do remember Chuck Henry's version]. Can't wait for that "Feast of Leftovers". Too bad the "Riddlers" clip won't be up (for I missed it the 1st time). I would love to see "Mr. Late Show" hosting skills. Well let me ask for the heck of it, any chance in heck "The Riddlers" clip has a chance of reapperaing?

There are really 3 types of "keys" in television.
The first is SEL key - where font or a graphic has the key signal built in. For those familiar with graphics, it's similar to the alpha channel. Essentially it's a black-and-white image where anything black would be transparent, and anything white would be seen. Shades of gray would be partially transparent. You then marry that up with the graphic - and it automatically keys. Chyron graphics (supers, CG's, etc) and OTS (over-the-shoulder) graphics on newscasts use this. This has pretty much been around 15 years or so.
The second is ChromaKey - where you use a certain color - usually green or blue - and digitally superimpose one thing over another. Most people are familiar with this. It's how a meteorologist stand in front of maps, Superman flies, etc. This has probably been around since the late 60s.
The third is called a LUM key - for luminance. It's very similar to the black-and-white example given above - and how the earliest credits were done. Anything black was transparent, white you could see. So, take a black card with white letters - and you can put white text onto a video signal. You could do the same with yellow. Old television roll credits were done like this, with the credits as white letters on a black drum - someone "rolled" the drum - and you superimpose the credits over the video. You could do the same thing with the eggcrate display. Since it's usually white bulbs on the black background - you can key them. This was also done on Card Sharks 86 for the Money Cards game. As technology developed, switchers could change the color of the letters electronically - and even add borders - kinda like the red letters with white borders on the SYN Joker's Wild.
Hope that helps.

I too am glad you've found a new spot for the Page O'Clips, especially in seeing a Strike It Rich intro and a trip to Bullseye's hallowed Bonus Island. I find it particularly interesting that you chose that particular Bullseye clip to show, since, if memory serves, Leon (I can't remember his last name) was Bullseye's answer to Thom McKee. While I can't quite remember his final total, I do believe the ol' "Mississippi gambler" was the show's all-time money winner, and won AT LEAST two cars.

IIRC The top two winners on civilian Bullseye were Davide(yes, that's how he spelled his name) with $56,300 and Jules Minton(who later was an answer-and-question maven on Trebek J!) with $48,300. I don't recall how much Leon won(he was a season one contestant if it was the "10 spins" rule in the bonus round as opposed to the "7 spins" rule invoked later in season one) Dunno who was the all-time winner among the celebs :)

If that is who I think that is, then that is Leon Reed. That might not be a notable name to anyone else, but it is to me, because through varied sheer luck I happen to have seen him as a successful contestant on _three_ seperate game shows...he was on Bullseye, then he went on to be a big winner on Hit Man, and THEN, a couple years later, he popped up on Press Your Luck.
(And remember, I don't do the tape-fiend thing, so I saw him on Hit Man and PYL when they first ran, and saw his Bullseye appearance when USA was running them.)

Marc Leinwand is another guy with large-scale success on three game shows: TTD, PYL, and Trebek J!. He won the TTD TofC in 1983, was one of the early undefeated champions on PYL, and made it to the J! TofC.

He actually did 4 shows, having appeared on TTD in 1979 prior to doing the other 3 mentioned...dunno how he did, however.

In the back of my head, I remember a Leon who retired a ten-time champ on HM. After his tenth Triple Crown, Peter gave him the nametag from his podium. Given said show's gaudy 65-episode run, he was quite possibly their only retired champ.

Anyone notice the oddity in the FTM intro?? The archway around the big door was more geometrical in first wide shot of the set and more of a rounded rectangle in the second.
I assume the opening shot was from the pilot for the show? You'd think they would have reshot that sequence live with each show...strange.

It was the pilot, and that clip was spliced in the intro of every episode, for some weird reason. In some eps., you can even see a 4th contestant podium.
Incidentally, they also spliced in a 1980 copyright for every closing, even the eps. from 1981.

That opening shot, and the first commercial break intro, and the shot coming out of the commercial breaks(just before John Harlan or whomever read the fee plugs), as well as the closing shot with the "Copyright 1980 Sandy Frank Productions" ID, all came from the pilot. The pilot episode had four contestants playing at the outset, as we can see four podiums in it.
Face the Music is the epitome of the word strange when it comes to some of its production techniques and contestants, but it's still a cult favorite among this community.

Perhaps all of the episodes of the 1980-81 season were taped before 1981 started. Jim Lange's NTT, another Sandy Frank show, had episodes that first aired in 1985 with a 1984 copyright on them, so maybe those too were taped before January rolled around.

Mr. Coyne, you don't know how happy you've made me.
First, my name is Erik Zmajkovic and I'm a huge fan of game shows, preferably the '70's.
When your site went down, I was very disappointed. I've never seen so many fantastic game show clips before!
Now that your site is back, I'll keep checking to see what you've got to show. I hope you can find a much better server in the near future.
Once again, I'm happy your site is back up.

It probably just depends on the production company. As Chris C. once told me at the old Usenet, GT used the tape date to determine copyright dates, rather than airdates. Although I did see a TTTT8x episode that was most likely taped in 1981 but still carried a 1980 copyright (this was the Larry King episode--the show contained references to first subject Elaine Zayek winning the U.S. Figure Skating Championship in February 1981 [unless Ward redubbed her affidavit], as well as a reference to a Ronald Reagan speech about the economy which more than likely had to have been made after he was sworn in).
Getting back to the subject at hand, Sandy Frank probably had the same philosophy as far as using tape dates to determine copyright while many other production companies (Grundy, Griffin, Stewart, Carruthers) went ahead and used airdate.

Barry & Enright really jumped the gun on Tic Tac Dough episodes in late 1979--unless Cleveland's WEWS-TV (Catch 5 and you've caught it all) was playing episodes much earlier than they were supposed to--which I doubt. It was still 1979, yet the copyright date shown was 1980.
