If this isn't allowed, then by all means, mods, make it go away.

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/500156

This is my newest game, Drop the Bomb. It's a refresh of the series, and the game play is reminiscent of the front game of Bullseye and the end game of the Joker's wild. It's my biggest game to date and I would be remiss if I didn't share it with my friends here at the Game Show Forum.

Tell me what you think, and thanks a lot for playing and for all your support.

I liked it! I thought the bomb in the front game was a little harsh (the game is OVER if you miss one? Completely? Really?), but it's pretty and the material appears to at least be proofread. :)

The game's over if you miss one when a BOMB pops up. Elsewise, it's a 3-strikes kinda gig. And yeah, a large databank of proofread questions seems to be above-average compared to my programming kin. :D

Great game! My only problem is that I'm constantly getting questions with "undefined" as the question and 4 answer choices, and that always leads to a strike.

Same here, except I only get three choices, all "undefined".

This is a problem with the ActionScript I'm using to save the questions you've already answered. I've inserted code that should remedy this situation, so go ahead and play again. If it doesn't work, go to please visit the Flash Settings page at http://www.macromedia.com/support/document..._manager07.html and click "Delete All Sites." That'll clear up any problems.

Fun game. I gave ya a 5. :)

Yes, I understand that, and I think it's overly harsh. :)

Random thought: Newgrounds comments may possibly be worse than YouTube comments. And that's saying something.

"Delete All Sites" did the trick. Thanks! :-)

Yeah, but getting the last word as a response is sweeeeeet.

That's not possible.

Oh my Gawd, it is. The only difference is that the dipshits on that board use better grammar, and not text message speak. The elitist douchebag with the rating scale prolly couldn't program a VCR.

Oh yeah, that last medal is a funny one...good game too!

Spiffy! Great work, Cory.

Commentary from a gameplay perspective:

Cory, you've put cool stuff out now that I think you can stand some constructive criticism here: sometimes the randomness in a game can be a bad thing. The original incarnation of Drop the Bomb was a total press your luck game, and so who cares who random it was. But here, to use Joker's Wild references, your balance between Knowledge and Lady Luck is off.

Point 1: Questions range anywhere from $100 to $1000. When it takes $5,000 to win, the idea that I'm answering questions at a 50 questions to win rate is a little unfair (and I spun $100 enough to make that a concern). I know you can't really change the upper value now since you've got a medal that relies on it (first medal I won), but you should consider raising the lower value slightly.

Point 2: Chris's concern about the bomb is absolutely reasonable. I have also spun bombs twice in a row -- once in a 4 question contract, and then in a 5. The idea of, "well, you survived 9 bomb questions and now have a score of $0" kinda sucks. You're already penalizing them by making them answer a "game over" question. Doing 5 of them for no money is over the top. A more fair way to handle this would have be that normal contracts run from 2-5 questions, and then any 1 question contract is a bomb (and since bombs would appear in the center window, the bomb question could still be worth money). So while bombs would appear more often, the individual bombs would be less dangerous.

Point 3: Please don't allow the same thing to appear in a window twice in a row. In addition to preventing a too-easy or too-hard game, it improves the curve on how long a given won game takes. A playtime that is too erratic (in either direction) can psychologically turn people off.

Cory, an absolutely wonderful job! Just played my first game and had a ball. Will play again many more times. Keep up the great work!

Agreed on both of these counts. I would consider changing the values to 250-500-750-1000, or 200-400-600-800-1000. And the Bomb's current placement just sucks the life out of the front game. Parliboy's right - shift the Bomb to the second window, and make it a sudden-death, one-question contract. Get it right, win the money in the third window. Get it wrong, and it's Turtle Wax time. In fact, to add a certain risk/reward element, you might want to consider offering the option of continuing to play with the Bomb (with the category and money windows staying as-is) after getting the question right. For example, if I were to spin Sports-BOMB-1000, I would probably be willing to keep tempting the fates with that Bomb, rather than spinning again and getting, say, Travel-5-200.

Bonus game works great as-is, dollar amounts and all. And the medals are bound to make me sign up for an account. Very nice work overall, Cory.

EDIT: Also, with only 4 or 5 dollar amounts, it might be possible to sub-categorize the questions by level of difficulty, though I don't know if that's something you'd want to go for.

ANOTHER EDIT: Maybe a cash bonus at the end of the bonus round for going the full number of spins without bombing out?

/Trivial Pursuit deck + dice = potential multi-player home version

Yeah, I agree here. One Bomb question is okay. Having to answer five in a row (and for no money) was just stupid.

If you *must* keep it the way it is, I would suggest fixing the logic such that a contract of no more than two or three (and three should be EXCEEDINGLY rare) comes up in the second window following a Bomb hit in the first one.

Well, to quote the game description, "Welcome to the game where knowledge is a bastard and Lady Luck's his bitch."

I think the balance is bound to be off just a tad bit. :)

Then the second you hit $2500, you're rooting for a bomb contract. Fail.

Nice job! Enjoyed it very much...even though I'm dead meat when it comes to current pop culture. Great graphics and music/efx. Might even consider making a box version, if you don't mind.

Gotta agree with this. I hit $4000 or so; got nailed with a 5 question contract on books w/a bomb, and blew it. Kinda sucked.

The game played perfectly yesterday, but for some reason today the word "Questions" in the center window appears in Times New Roman font, and is so large only "QUESTI" is visible.

I'm all for abbreviation, but c'mon.

That was an error on my part (Forgot to embed a fancy font) so that'll be fixed tomorrow. My b.

One "glitch" I've come across twice is that once you grab the special "Octochamp" medal, the contract is over, regardless of where you are in it, and you have to re-activate the board again.

/Great the first time because it was a 5Q contract for Books.
//Pisser the 2nd time, because it came after the first of 4Qs on Games..

That's a very strange glitch. I've never replicated that bug ever. Let me know the circumstances and I'll try to fix it.

I've never had an issue with the Octochamp.

Of course, twice I've gotten Don't Be A Wimp on the last spin of the bonus round. Seems like flawed logic, there.

While we're on the constructive criticism train, I thought my general knowledge was fairly solid, but in about ten games that I've played, I have survived to the bonus game all of once. Bad luck with low dollar figures? Possibly. Inopportune bombs? Yeah, there's that. But many times I'll be rolling along and come up to something that I've just never heard of, and it's pick-and-pray time.

Since I'm the curious sort, Cory, what did you use as your source for material?

A lot of the material was written from just things I've learned in college, backed up with textbooks I never sold back. Wikipedia was used when sourced with other external, verifiable sources.

I could be speaking ex-rectum here, but I think the winning cap needs to be lowered. I played over a dozen games and didn't even get past the main game. Highest I ever got was $2,500.

And strangely, in about 8 games, I only spun two bombs.

In my first game, I drew a bomb on my first spin, and managed to answer all four questions correctly to survive. I never saw a bomb again -- and never answered another question correctly, either!

I sware (!), I completely forgot that Corey had asked my permission to use my name. As I recall, he didn't specifically tell me the name of the game he was working on, and I didn't make the connection to it being this one.

When I play, I tend to want low amounts in round to garner more spins in the bonus round.
It's tough, but so is Jeopardy!.
