Hey gang,

I wanted to throw this out there in case anyone had some good feedback or suggestions.

I'm sure those of you with Geocities websites know they're closing down later this year (don't know the exact date), so for those of us who'd like to keep our Game Show sites going, we're going to have to move somewhere else.

Are there any other free hosting sites that are any good that anyone can recommend, or do you think it's better to move somewhere where I'd have to pay in order to keep it "user-friendly"; and if so, any suggestions? I'd like to start planning ahead now so I'm not caught it a situation where "you're site's gone...goodbye!"

When the time comes I'd also like to just transfer over my info if possible, rather than entering it all again (there's a fair bit there). I'm not really a whiz at this, so the easier the better! Yahoo/Geocities stated they'd be e-mailing all of their clients with info on how to save the data, but since it's been over 10 years since I first set it up, I think the e-mail address they have for me might no longer be valid.

I'd be happy to hear any opinions on this :)

My take is that if your site is stagnant; i.e. you haven't had any new content in a while and don't really plan on adding any, then it's probably not worth it for you to pay for hosting. Whereas if you do change up the content a lot, it might be worthwhile to look into an inexpensive hosting service, which will *still* be far far nicer than anything you were working with at GeoCities.

Not only should you be able to do this, but I don't think I would bother looking at any service that didn't have some kind of importing functionality in place. Remember, it's *your* content. In the case of a free host, you're bringing them eyeballs for them to AdSense (or whatever) to, and a paid host you're, well, paying. It's in their interest to make it easy for you to move to them from another host.
