A contestant from Australia was on today's show and ended up winning some sort of tanning bed and a Honda Civic. Okay, so maybe she is a permanent resident, we think. But then, she mentioned something about her "international driver's license" while playing Lucky 7.

So what gives here? I thought contestants had to be permanent residents of the U.S. or Canada, right? Isn't that in the paperwork the contestants fill out while they are still wearing numbers?

Now, as I write this, I think about Paddy Spooner, who was on three versions of Millionaire...

If she is indeed a permanent resident of Australia, she won two of the most unfortunate, untransportable prizes.

Are Honda's down there in Aussie or not? Don't know much about the country. I wonder why the heck she didn't try for the Aussie version, their stakes are much higher, they hold the world record for TPIR winnings.

From CBS:

If you are from outside of the USA and do not have a SS card, this will not be required as part of your I.D. A passport can be a substitute for the driver's license.

Probably because it's been off the air for three and a half years.

No, they don't. We do.

They did hold that record with their "Mega Showcase" winner of over $600,000, which included a condo. That is until Adam won the first $1,000,000 in Drew's Million Dollar Spectaculars last year.

Also, I don't think Australia currently has a version of the show in production, if I'm not mistaken.

So, if she is a legitimate contestant, it begs the question: what the heck can she possibly do with her prizes? Can she redeem the car for a right-side driver in her home country? Would she be taxed by Uncle Sam? (Australia doesn't tax on game show winnings IIRC.)

"Aussie" refers to a native Australian, not the place. That's like calling someone an Americaner.

And yes, Hondas (no apostrophe) are plentiful there.

Correct on both counts, although I wish it was still being produced.

I'm not sure, but I think she can get a right-side driven car here in exchange.
BTW, didn't she end up as the top winner of the day?

Nope, made it as far as the wheel. BTW, her total winnings were US$21,929, which amounts to AUS$26,894.97.
