Nice little set here, though $15 in postage doesn't help.

Must be where you live. My postage would be $9.57.

(which doesn't make sense considering I live maybe 20 minutes from the seller's hometown anyway.)

I almost feel tempted to bid but I don't know what use I'd have for these games. I'm not too big a collector and I do like to play the games at least once with someone. Still, rarities...

Eh. We'll see.

Cool, I didn't realize it was automatically calculating based on where you live. It doesn't appear to be a scammy "handling fees" thing either. A box with six games is going to be large, and ten buck for even a trip across town doesn't seem out of line. I just want anybody who's bidding to be aware of the significant extra charge.

It's a fairly recent thing, I believe (within the last year-year and half). IIRC they used to make you click a couple links to figure it out.

(And I've received stuff from eBay sellers in New Jersey in bigger boxes before and paid less...maybe it's just me.)

Matt, which of those games do you have?

Twenty-one dollars worth of significant out here in Pugetopia. Holy cow.

I will say that Word for Word is an excellent game and it remains playable to this day. Anagrams don't really go stale, after all.

Oh, please. I have all the games. All of them. I have Uncle Jim's Question Bee. I have two different versions of Vox Pop. It's kinda pathetic, but as I say, everybody ought to be an expert about something.

Bah, don't be so modest. Your list of the particularly egregious/absurd questions from the sucky High Rollers book made for fine reading. While I don't have as many board games as even some of my friends, it's a number that baffles my parents. I use your assessments when I go to Goodwill to see if a particular game is worth buying. Or more often, not worth buying.
mcsittel
We can all rate our board game collections by using the Ottinger Index (OI). For this auction, I only have 3 of the 6 listed, whereas Mr. Ottinger has all 6, so I get a (3/6)*100=50. Of course if Matt would like to give each game an ODR (Ottinger Difficulty Rating), we could further refine that index to weight the strength of our collections based on the rarity of each game. Thus each auction should come with an Ottinger Index and instructions as to if it's worth our time to invest if we want to aspire to a collection that is nothing but a noonday shadow of the Ottinger Museum of Games (OMG).

While I know the above post was in jest, Matt DOES have a list of the "ten rarest games" on his website. One of them is included in this pack, the Dealer's Choice game. When I do my Ebay searches, its one I routinely search for; separate from the usual "game show" query I do.
Matt Ottinger
Exhibit #274 in the case that "rare" is not the same as "valuable": The auction of six games, several of them pretty hard to find, sold for a total of $20.50. There was a time when I would have happily paid that much for one of them.

I hope the winner was someone here, and that you enjoy your treasures.

Congrats on your purchase. I have all six in my collection and paid $50 for one of them (guess which one!)

Thankfully my wife (the Lovely Susan) is still talking to me!

The obvious choice would be Place Your Bets. I think I paid about that much for mine back in the day.
Maybe Word for Word and maybe maybe Name That Tune. Any of the other three, and Susan & I both would like to have a word with you...

You are correct sir! Any of the others and Susan would 've cracked my skull!!! She's sweet, but not that sweet!

As for the "Ten rarest games" list, I have eight of the ten (having been outbid once for The Sky's the Limit) Does anyone have "Top Secret" other than Matt? Just curious.

I plucked it up off Ebay for $3.00 about four years ago.

How faithful is Place Your Bets to the gameplay of Dealer's Choice?

Mark's is only the third copy I'm aware of. One other Forum member has a copy that I know about, and another Forum member who I know has a similarly large collection does not have it.

As for Place Your Bets/Dealer's Choice, this might help. I've found a renewed interest in updating my site, BTW. Go to the main page, and you can see detail about Yours for a Song, plus I'm hoping to get info on Dough Re Mi, Window Shopping and others up soon.

Thanks for the info. I remember seeing it in a JC Penney Christmas catalog in '88, so it's cool to see some collectors have it.

Not that I'm trying to advertise, or anything. But if anyone is interested in a copy of Maxene Fabe's TV Game Show book, I have a copy on eBay.

Since you're not trying to advertise, I'll point out that half.com has a copy of the book for 5.75, which is cheaper than your opening bid. So if anyone's looking for it, that's a cheaper way to go.

Well thank you for that information! I know several years back it was a hard book to find. I just know I haven't seen a copy in a while. If it doesn't sell this go around, I'll consider lowering my opening bid.

I figured I would revive this thread than start a new one. On last night's TTTT (3/12), Bud Collyer mentioned there was TTTT home game available in stores, but he didn't show a copy of it. I know WML had a home game, but not TTTT. Can anyone out there shed further light on this?

Its not like there's a website about these or anything.

alfonzos
Matt's web site, although wonderful, doesn't tell you how the TTTT home game plays. Allow me: three players claim to be one the historical figures the game gives you. The panel gets a list of questions to ask the players, only one of whom has been given the correct answers. Play procedes exactly as the television series would.

Actually....any time you see a green dot on the page (as for TTTT), you can click it and open up a more detailed description of the game. I have pictures for the TTTT page but I lost them in the redesign of the site a couple years ago and haven't gotten them back.
