I kinda think it's not really that they couldn't potentially raise the money. It's just too much of a damn hassle to have ungrateful people pester you and pester you for more games at a faster pace... especially when it was free. With the messages a lot of ingrates on that board would leave, I'm surprised they did it *this* long.

This is definately going to be Loss for Game Show fans. I love that site! I hope they at least make the Games downloadable before they shut down.

Why should they? They'd get the same complaints ten-times over.

You bet they would....It makes me sick, but unfortunately it happens with all of these "home-brewed" games....Flashgames, and Bigjon's games too..
They make a game, promise a "new one" coming soon, and people get impatient and antsy and pissy over the whole thing...
I enjoyed the flashgames, but didn't get unhappy if a game was delayed...

I read some of the posts on their message board... woah those people are cruel. They were ungratefully impatient.

Despite the complaints they got that obviously ticked them off, Dan and the gang did a hell of a service for the hardcore game show fans, even more than GSN does :)(the games wouldn't work on my computer, but I still give them tons of credit)
It's a shame it had to end, if that is the gist of this message if I think it is.

It's a shame that the grateful "silent majority" rarely shines through. I'm certain that the people who complain are in the minority. They just shout more.
But RIP FlashGames. We hardly knew ye.

I agree...as much as I liked playing the games, and as anxious I got awaiting to play new releases, my life does not revolve around a game show's bonus round, plain and simple...especially since I'm not winning any real money! ;-)
But seriously, I will definitely miss the site if it has to shut down, however, I'd just simply shut down the message board to shut all the whiners up. Who needs a board or "fans" if no one is gonna have anything nice to say?

Civility seems to be something that's getting lost on the internet as the average age of message board users continues to decline. You're right, it ought to be absolutely stunning that users would get so impatient and demanding -- on the site's own board no less! -- over something that they're getting for free from fellow fans. But honestly, it doesn't surprise me at all.
Nor does it surprise me that the Flashgames gang would at some point realize that they're working way too hard for way too little reward. Their message board suggests that they might be interested in taking up collections to keep the site running, so those of you who are interested may have an opportunity to put your money where your mouth is.

Having read through the message board, it seems that it was the reaction of the message board regulars to the idea of a pay site that made the choice much easier.
M. "Snarky" O. is right on, though, on everything else.

The only thing is, how else are they going to judge public opinion? The board was probably the easiest way for them to gather massive amounts of information about their users without going through unethical means.

The message boards seem to back up something my dad said over the summer: "This might sound a bit elitist, but I've come to the conclusion that the majority of the people in the United States are stupid." He actually said it with regard to some political poll, but I think it fits equally well here.

I love their games and find it as a good way to pass time (sometimes WAY too much time).
I have saved all the games locally on my machine in case the site really does go down...

I think that the complaints came from mostly the same 2 or 3 people, myself.....
Some of us just don't have the spare money to send them. I'd send along 500 bucks in a flash [no pun] if I could, but I can't.
I wish them luck in all their future endeavors and that they find great success in the Scrabble Challenge pilot they worked on.
EDIT: And as a final farewell, they posted this. It's a beta test with only one question, but still pretty neat.

What a shame...Flashgames was a great site, and I'm sorry to see it go...Dan, Chris, et al. really put together some top-notch products, and I loved them all.
So long, FG... :-(

This is a loss for those game show fans that really did appreciate their work. I wish I had a thousand dollars to keep their work going. Thanks to all who worked on the Flashgames.

Methinks they are getting into murky waters by charging a fee to access intellectual property that strictly isn't theirs. If I were a devisor of one of those shows, I would sue in a way that I would be inclined not to if it was strictly "for fun".
I doublt money is the real issue - if it were, they would never have got as far as they did. Running an unlimited bandwidth server is not THAT much money (I have one for £500pa) which can be subsidised by re-selling accounts.

I just visited the page and now the Message Board is gone. Another great Game Show site bites the dust. However, they appear to only be taking a temporary Hiatus. They were already asking for new Domain name suggestions just last week. Looks like they just want to revamp and come back in a different form.
As another person posted, I sincerely hope that Charging for games doesn't get them into any trouble if that's the route they choose to take. How do others here feel about that happening? From your point of View would that be any more legal than people Selling Game Show tapes? Just curious as to where people stand on that issue.

Well, I do recall John Ricci making that Blockbusters game and charging people $12 for it; AFAIK, nothing came of that.
