I'm sure you all know that N@N is remaking one of sister channel Nick's old gameshows into My Family's Got GUTS, which will tape on the Universal Studios-Orlando lot in August, though not necessarily at the old Extreme Arena/Nickelodeon lot, which for about a year has been occupied by a Blue Man Group stage show.
But who to host MFGG? Let's see...Mike O'Malley, the original host, might be available. As for original co-host/"referee" Moira Quirk...lately she's done some cartoon and videogame voices, but I don't see why she wouldn't be part of the remake. Mike & Mo are each married with at least two kids [Mike has three], which would fit right in with MFGG's two adults/two kids team format.
I know, the game's the thing, but if the hosts were to matter as much, I think MFGG wouldn't work without Mike & Mo, if both feel they want to host this.

I don't think it matters who hosts Nick game shows as long as they're mid-late 20's or so. Those shows were generally hosted by actors looking for a job between sitcom roles. The original hosts are a little too old to resonate with today's kids and any parent old enough to have kids that can participate probably never watched "Guts" first-run. Notice when they remade DD, Marc Summers was nowhere to be found.

How quickly I forgot about
DD2k. But if the game's the thing with respect to
MFGG, perhaps it wouldn't matter to me who actually gets to host as long as this version has, in each episode, an event with bungee-jumping, and an Aggro/MegaCrag at the end. Then again, who knows? They might let individuals in each family team compete in each of the first four rounds, and perhaps have some sort of relay event instead of the Crag in the final round...or they could change the Crag to a relay if the producers, to borrow from another old Nick game show title....
Figure It Out.

Fixed that for ya.

At least Mike O'Malley has a role on TV right now.... a
spokesperson for Time Warner Cable.

Saw the other day that Mike's going to be on the new NBC Christian Slater spy drama "My Own Worst Enemy" this fall. Something a little different for him.

At The Movies has been Ebert free for years. I realize some are confusing that title for what was

And of course, on the original Sneak Previews show, S & E were replaced by Neil Gabler and Ben's dad Jeffrey Lyons. So Lyons pere and Lyons fils both replaced Ebert. Coincidence? You be the judge.
Ob game show: Dixie Whatley was a contestant on BTB76.

No sign of Moira, but they did get a pretty Australian lady who serves the same purpose. (Name's Asha Kuerton...hosts an MTV show over in Australia.)

How does the scoring work to determine the advantage on the Crag? And how does the Crag work with two people? I'm assuming it's still 4 events plus the Crag since there are only two teams and not three individuals...
I read some of the event descriptions on the site- sounds like they're revamping some of the original events, but have added some new ones as well. Looks like this will be a fun little show to watch...

How does the scoring work to determine the advantage on the Crag?
Each point gets you a 0.1 second head start over the other team on the Crag.
QUOTE(weaklink75 @ Aug 19 2008, 06:24 PM)
And how does the Crag work with two people?
The clip is a bit misleading; the Crag is played with two members of each team. The first member scales their side of the crag, and must hit three actuators. Then, the second member climbs up the rock wall in the center of the Crag to the top. The first one to the top of the crag wins the game.

I liked it, although I think I speak for everyone else here when I say they easily could've made an hour show out of this and kept the 4 events + Crag format from the originals. And I still miss Mike and Mo's dynamic chemistry. Other than that, I'll keep watching.

Well I think that the show has gotten a lot better now that they're in the semi-final round (now it's three events plus an expanded 4-player Crag round)....
Speedy G
Sep 24 2008, 09:09 PM
Yeah, in the semis there are 3 events + crag, and the advertising for the final (excuse me, "Aggro Bowl") calls for 4 events + crag. As in the prelims, it looks like they're sticking to the same event lineup in each semifinal.
Interesting note: regardless of point lead, the head start was capped at 7 seconds in the prelims and at 10 seconds in the semis.
They also seem to have either A) pumped the audience up way too far, or B) turned up the volume on the crowd noise machine.
/Mike O'Malley's Time Warner Cable commercial during a break made me giggle uncontrollably for some reason
