You know how it works - the categories that don't make it to the broadcast are given out a week before on the other coast. The game show winners:

Makeup: "The Price is Right" (CBS)
Game Show Host: Alex Trebek, "Jeopardy!" (Syndicated)
Game/Audience Participation Show: "Cash Cab" (Discovery Channel)

Imagine... next year... in the mix... Password, Match Game, Trivial Pursuit.

Or, if you're familiar with Kathy Griffin, the Schmemmys. Sucks that we're relegated to that, but maybe with the depth of shows available for the nominations next year, we can work our way back up to the big league.

Makeup? Makeup? Bente does this amazing revamp of the classic set, to say nothing of this terrific new host, and all Price gets is makeup?

By "imagine" you mean what could be, right? We haven't had confirmation of daytime MG or Password, have we?

Give credit where credit's due. The makeup people do a helluva good job. Bob Barker without makeup looks like The Cryptkeeper. With makeup, he looks easily 25 years younger, somewhere around 90 years old.

My advice, DON'T WATCH THIS FRIDAY! Not even for Regis!

Furiously,
Tammy

P.S. Don't be surprised if next year's "Lifetime Acheivment" winner is Mark Itkin!

With that, "Cash Cab" is only the second cable game show ever to win the Emmy for Outstanding Game Show, joining "Win Ben Stein's Money".

Point taken. I meant no disrespect to the makeup artists. Come to think of it, I wasn't considering the size of the job: I don't know how, but I forgot all about the models. It ain't just slappin' some rouge on Barker (or Drew)...

On a related note, the reason why Drew Carey wasn't among the nominees for Outstanding Game Show Host is because he opted not to be submitted for the award.

"I don't want Alex Trebek to feel bad when I KICK HIS ASS."

/or was that the Matt Ottinger submission

Since when have they given an award to the announcer?

What exactly is wrong with Cash Cab?

Obviously, it's a challenge to make Rachel and Tamiko look pretty. :)

/I feel the need to make it extra-clear that THIS IS SARCASM.

On a related note, the reason why Drew Carey wasn't among the nominees for Outstanding Game Show Host is because he opted not to be submitted for the award.

He can still enter in the primetime awards for Power of 10 (Million Dollar Password is not eligible in 2008 as it did not premiere before June 1); there is a new category this year for "reality-competition show host" (in the past, the host of the show that won the Reality-Competition Program Emmy got an award).

(When I first saw this, you do not want to know how close I came to responding, "Submitted for what show?" I guess some of us have a hard time not associating TPIR with Bob...)

I agree. This is the third straight year the Game/Audience Participation Show winner was sent to the Creative Arts ceremony.

I don't think announcers are eligible for any daytime Emmys.

Unlike primetime Emmys, which have a general "voiceover" award, the only daytime award for voicing is specifically limited to animated shows. (This year's winner was Eartha Kitt for The Emperor's New School.)

Well, that and because Drew didn't host Million Dollar Password. ;)

I don't think announcers are eligible for any daytime Emmys.

Dear Master Gilbert can wait in line until John Reed King gets his long overdue Lifetime Achievement Emmy.
