The Cliff Notes version: Temptation's last show for now will be in October. Millionaire is returning to Nine for 8 weeks/40 eps. because the network doesn't want to lose the rights to the show.

Damn. The Aussie version of Temptation was an extremely well-produced show.
Gus
Does "for now" mean this is a knowingly-temporary hiatus, or is its status up in the air?
TV Favorites
Wasn't it mentioned a while back that they may be canceling Temptation due to the cost to produce it?

How can I get on the show?
Do you know the contact address?

You mean the show has been canceled for good? Or will it be back sometime next year?

From the lede:
QUOTE
Temptation hosts Phillips and Nixon face an uncertain future at the network following word the on-again, off-again quiz show is to be "shelved" for at least the remainder of the year.

Had you actually read that, you would know the answer to your question.

Cut him some slack. He's still depressed that Todd Newton and Brooke Burke weren't chosen for the US version.
ChuckNet
And apparently WWtBaM's Eddie McGuire didn't last too long as Nine Network's CEO, since he'll be back in the host's seat for this series.

Chuck Donegan (The Illustrious "Chuckie Baby")
Brig Bother
Well he's been hosting Aussie 1 vs 100 for most of this year anyway.

Correct.
And he will still host 1 vs 100.

I think you might be wrong there. From what I hear, it will return next year.

One source is saying axed, while another source is saying the show is back next season (February 2008). However, I can confirm they are having auditions for Temptation in Melbourne today (Tuesday 21st Aug).

Well, excuse me for being a little concerned and confused over this!

G-d help me, I'm going to try to explain this...

The article said, in so many words, that the show would be "'shelved' for at least the remainder of the year." That says nothing about whether or not the show will be back after the end of this year. That, plus the word "uncertain" regarding Mr. Phillips and Ms. Nixon, should have told you that the correct answer to your question was "we don't know yet."

Do you understand now why Chris said that if you'd read the article -- and not even the whole article; up to and including the second paragraph would have been enough -- you'd have found the answer to your own question?

Don't know what trustno1's sources are, but given the handle, I'll choose not to trust him (or her). Here's a look at what has been printed.

Headline to original Daily Telegraph story:
QUOTE
Temptation axed for McGuire

The Melbourne Herald Sun story is a little less brutal:
QUOTE
Temptation cast and crew have been told that the show will be back next year, and that replacing it with Millionaire does not mean the show has been axed.

Then there's the Telegraph's article in its "Sydney Confidential" section:
QUOTE
... Nine revealed it will "rest" Phillips' Sale of the Century rebirth in October until next year and replace it with a weeknight series of Millionaire, hosted by the company's former CEO.

Also from the "Sydney Confidential" article, a possible explanation for the timing of a Temptation hiatus:
QUOTE
While Temptation has rated well in its 7pm weekday timeslot, often out-rating Seven's Home and Away, it has proved to be a dud inclusion to Nine's summer program with viewers tuning out in droves during the non-ratings period over Christmas.

It seems that Ed Phillips's Channel Nine contract, expiring at the end of this year, is also a factor. I don't know which scribe has decent sources on this (if any), but those are the reports, for what they're worth.

I am a "him".
BTW, there has been an update on the Daily Telegraph's Confidential page, saying that it has been rested, and most likely will return with a new host.

All right, all right, I'm sorry. It's just that had they said that the show was canceled, I'd feel sorry for those fans in Oz. I also apologize for being a little (or in Chris Lemon's view, a lot) hostile when I made my "excuse me" quote. You're right; I am kind of irked about what's coming up on US Temptation in terms of the hosting selection and format and I resented being clowned by Chris for my comments. But I'm cool as of this moment.
