Full Version: Lost audio remnants spring forth!

First off, I'd like to address that some time ago I hinted at a major surprise to come around the end of March, which came and went. The big event was the unveiling of the 1972 Split Second pilot, but due to difficulties with my source, I wasn't able to show it. We're still working on that. Now for the good stuff....

We've certainly hit the jackpot here with the uncovering of some full audio-only episodes! I don't know where the video is or if it exists, but this is certainly a step in the right direction. I didn't want to break this news close to April 1st as this is no prank.
In no particular order:

Sale of the Century (JACK KELLY)
Winning Streak (Premiere episode)
You Don't Say (Final episode, 1969)
The Match Game (*2* 1969 episodes, including the final episode!)
Blankety Blanks (Final episode)
The Wizard of Odds (premiere episode)
High Rollers (premiere episode)
Words and Music
Joe Garagiola's Memory Game

Bill Cullen rarities are hard to come by, but here we've found 2! Again, these are audio only. They'll be available on the site for listening in the very near future once I decide upon how I'll package them.

If I lived close to San Antonio, you would see a fat man wanting to kiss your shoes.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK

Hey Jamie!

I too appreciate your hard work. It's a great site. I was wondering though (and I sent you an email on this and never got a reply) I ponied up for the 3 month subscription last week, and I know I'm supposed to have access to the Page O Clips catalog and whatnot, but I never got any sort of email on it. Just wondering what happened. Thanks!

Aw, man, that will be tremendous!

When I was a kid (1963-70), I used to audio-tape game shows. Had I been allowed to hang onto my collection, we'd have the sound from a couple-hundred shows of that era.

But five-and-a-half-inch reels of tape were expensive, don't you know, and I was only wasting them on my g--damn silly-ass game shows. (The words of my dad, rest his soul.)

Thanks, Jimmy!

Absolutely amazing.

Will these audio-only eps. be available for download?

Yowsah! This'll be amazingly fun. Thanks very much for sharing with the rest of us. I'll very much look forward to hearing when these are ready.

Again, thanks!

Audio-only or not, these are still incredible finds!

I echo the sentiments of the rest of the board...thanks so much for sharing with us!

Bad news folks. These audio shows are restricted, even from me.
I was right about to seal the deal for them and receive them over the weekend, but now that I royally screwed it up and opened my big mouth about these finds,
the source has prevented them from officially making their way into my possession.

Very sorry y'all. Rest assured that in the future, I'll ignore my excitement and FIRST positively ascertain that the shows I post info about are free for public consumption.

(And if the source reads this, rest easy. I haven't received them so they're still safe with the couple of people to whom you've sent them.)

For shame, for same, for shame... I don't know if I want to be ticked at you for blabbing or for the source for being a stick in the mud on the deal.

I'll give you a hint: being "ticked" at Jamie, considering what he charges you to look at his site, is the wrong answer.

(There is entirely too much politics in the trading scene.)

Yeah, it's funny how protective, secretive and conditional the people who have these shows get, considering it's not their material to make the rules about. I realize they have a certain personal right not to share and whatever, but it just underscores what little basis exists in making these rules. I mean, when Jamie talks about all these grace periods in which he can post clips from certain shows, he's talking about regular ol' Joes not wanting their shows "devalued" as far as I can tell.

That's exactly what it is. Which I've ranted about before, so I'll spare everyone now.

I suppose if you get into a scene where people who live in their parent's basement need to feel important, this is what's going to happen.

I can understand wanting to keep such items private if they had some sort of value that would be enhanced by keeping them limited, such as a rare baseball card. But all it is, really, is electrons and magnetic pulses on plastic.

Some people...(shakes head, clucks tongue, returns to stirring the stew)

If it's option A, you need to seriously look at your priorities.

It looks like episode trading is a lot like theme trading. *sigh*

How can an episode (or a theme, for that matter) be "devalued" when you can't legally sell it for any money?

I find no fault with Jamie. What I do find fault with is the selfish people who want to hoard things up for themselves and not share with others. I will admit that I used to be that way, but after being on the other side of it several times, I realize now how foolish that behavior is.

I don't think that anything good will become of this thread. Perhaps the moderators would like to lock it up and we can move on with life, silently cursing miserly collectors?

It's nothing we haven't discussed before, and unlike the time the hoarders harassed Casey, I don't see anyone defending hoarding in this thread (or, for that matter, asking me to punish you). I see no reason to close it.

I guess we can be happy that the audio still exists and perhaps we will hear it at some future date. I don't blame the guy who has the tapes, after all, nobody else apparently had the foresight to tape these particular shows in the first place.

And I think there's a point to be made here. The reason the original owner is upset is that the tapes were never to have been made public in the first place. They're his personal property. Just because something's easy to copy doesn't mean it's right or fair to do so. I also think there's a serious difference between "Lookie here, I have these tapes and you'll never see/hear them!" and simply having things that the general internet fanbase doesn't have, and just being quiet about it.

Believe me, there is a lot of stuff out there in private hands that we don't know about. I'm talking about people who don't have websites trumpeting their latest finds, people who have no desire or intention to trade, people who in some cases aren't even known to the internet community of collectors. To say these people are "hoarders" because they don't offer up their collection to anyone who asks is, in my opinion, grossly unfair. The people who are saying "everybody should share" are really saying "everybody who has something I don't have should give a copy to ME". I ask you to consider carefully which attitude is more selfish.

While I agree with your point, I must also point out that if Jamie knew that this person had them, then clearly he wasn't that quiet about it.

The trading circle isn't THAT big. Most everyone in that circle has some idea who Jamie is, and they should assume that if he's working out a trade with them, then he's doing it with the intention of acquiring content for his site, and if they DON'T want that to happen, they had better make that clear from the outset.

That said, you're absolutely right. If you have a piece of media you want to keep private and you don't want to come off looking like a dick, the best way to accomplish both goals is to NOT TELL ANYONE ABOUT IT.

Good point -- this isn't a John Chartier or a John Ricci playing "I have/know something you don't have/know." We don't even know the source's name, so it's not as though he's looking for PR either.

Sure it is. He's just not playing it with us. So maybe it isn't to the same extent, but this guy isn't completely without culpability.
