Mini-games? I guess since it says, "derived from" they're spinoffs, but huh? What, are they going to play Double Prices? Do you get a bonus if you write down an answer that's found in line 3?

I wasn't planning to buy this anyway, but I'm curious.

It's interesting, because the first thing I thought of was "Good. Now someone can FIX THE FREAKIN' MONEY TREE."

That said, it's still ultimately DoND played for funsies, and it's Global Star, so I'm pretty sure it's gonna suck. But it would be a little interesting to play it with the Australian tree.

So, if I wanted to, I could play a game of DoND for a virtual $1.98?

I have the feeling that CPU banker offers will be deactivated when custom games come up, having another person act as banker and fill in a value. That makes the most sense, anyway.

I'm no fan of wild speculation before something comes out, but this does intrigue me. I'm wondering if this chore thing is just an alternative version of the game, or whether you really can customize it to make the briefcases whatever you want them to be. And if it is truly customizable, how do the bank offers work? From what I'm hearing from you experts, this company is not really known for its creativity, so I see some giant holes here.

Actually, that doesn't make a single lick of sense.

I'm gonna guess one of two things: either the user will be tasked with providing the "value" of these non-monetary customizations, which can then be shot through the formula in the game for computing a cash bank offer, or they will be ranked from 1 to 26 based on the order you presented them in, and the offer will be one of them, selected based on the state of the game at that time.

I don't give GS enough credit for coming up with the former idea, so my guess is that it's gonna be something closer to the latter.

"Make my bed" is a punishment rather than a prize, whereas $5 is five bucks more than you had when the game began.

So if "Grandma foot rub" is the lowest value on the board and "More money in the will" is the top prize, then what are the average prizes in the middle of the tree? "Not excluded from dinner"? "Shower privileges"?

("The only two cases left are 'Clean the attic' and 'Control of the TV remote.' The banker has offered you 'Leftovers for lunch.' Deal or no deal?"

... Actually, that's not bad.)

It occurs to me that "customization" might not mean players get to type in their own values; they might simply get to choose "fun" prizes from a menu.

I'm not holding out any hope that the 26 models are going to look anything like the actual 26 models on the show. This poor #8 woman looks like one of those freaks in "The Sims" that likes to wear women's clothing and burn down the house by setting the toaster too high.

The nbcuniversalstore.com site has the game listed, and also mentions that copies purchased through them will have something extra, exclusive on them.

You know, what an interesting idea for a game that would be. Make a "Deal or No Deal" expansion pack for The Sims in which you control a model. Imagine the possibilies. Howie tells her to "open the case" and she just babbles back nonsensically. :)

There's some more screenshots on the Global Star site. As mentioned before they do have some things down pat like the briefcase fonts and the set which looks fantastic. However somehow they didn't do the same with the on-screen graphics which is a little disappointing. Hopefully they'll get the gameplay, music, and sound effects right which should make for a great game.

Hopefully this game will deploy and play better than the dvd version...

To answer (I believe) Lemon's question, by the looks of one of the screenshots, you WILL be able to make any custom board.

It certainly looks that way, anyhow, although I wouldn't call that absolutely conclusive proof.

I wonder if licensing the DoND format for these games gets you access to the formula for bank offers.

Incorrect. It's 5 addditonal puzzles for a 'picture puzzle-slider' minigame. Plus, if you don't have the NBC version, and want the pictures anyway, just type 'bigdeal' at the main menu. ;)

As for the game, it's not bad. It's fairly flashy for being nothing but layered pre-rendered Bink files, and you can have good customization over what's in the cases. The only thing that sucks is the On-Screen graphics. Too bad they couldn't match the TV show. It's got some interesting two-player modes, and the mini-games have really nothing to do with DoND.

Overall, not bad (for an official game), and it's years better than the craptacular Family Feud. I picked it up for $20 at Best Buy.

I was in Toys R Us the other day, and they have the special NBC store versions available; or at least they are labeled that way!
