For those of you near casinos, have you seen the new "Deal or No Deal" slot machines in your area? My father in law casually mentioned tonight that he played it in Horseshoe Casino (Council Bluffs, IA) today during our visit. I didn't even see it... I was happy to see the Price is Right machines here (with Punch-A-Bunch, Plinko and Dice Game bonuses) after Harrah's got rid of them here (well, more at moved them I suppose, since Horseshoe is owned by Harrah's).

Man, this is good timing. I just got back from Vegas last week, and they had a set in New York, New York, so naturally, I was spending a good amount of time there when Andrea and I weren't doing other things.

The DOND slot is a 21-line video slot, 5-reel format. There's two versions of the machine, red and blue. Each version has most of the same symbols: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, the banker, a model, a male contestant, female contestant, the DOND wild cards, and the cash box symbols which trigger the game if you get 3 of them in the correct fashion. There's also unique scatter pays and other mini games associated with each version of the machine.

Be forewarned: VERY VERY addictive. Even if you're not playing, you can easily find yourself standing around for hours watching other people play and rooting them on when they play the game.

I have more details if you ever want them, but I'll say those for private conversation.

I hope it's not a "Red vs. Blue" type thing.

Any slot machine can be very addictive when it's not for your money. When it is, though, I'd probably do something else, like video poker.

No worry, there's no battle between the two. In actuality, NY NY in Vegas had 3 of each, and all 6 were tied together into the progressive jackpot that the machines offered. And the reason I call them that is because those are the colors of the reels.

Like said, the differences between the machines were a few icons unique to each machine, the mini-games, and the order of the paylines (with a pair of paylines on each machine being unique).

I don't want to go into too much detail here in case I'm not allowed to. But I'll try to give a couple of the basic differences:

RED: More icons, 2 scatter pay opportunities (but smaller pay), both scatters tied to the mini game and the DOND game itself
BLUE: 1 stand-alone scatter pay (with bigger pay potential), 3 mini-games (randomly chosen)

I can't really say one is better than the other. I like the blue machine, personally, but when you read the details, you might argue the other way around.

For those of us who don't live and die by slot machines, will you define "scatter pay"?

"Scatter Pay" means getting a certain number of "Scatter" symbols, usually 3, in any position,
regardless of what payline they fall on. Just getting these symbols is good enough, without worrying
about getting them on the same line.

It does, thank you. I'd never heard of that. Mind, I totally so do not understand the appeal of playing a slot machine, especially now that you don't even get to pull the Joker Arm anymore. :)

Ah, but the little old folks with the oxygen canisters don't have the strength to pull it any more.

I also happened upon a bank of DonD, out in Iowa as well. I only played a couple of bucks worth.

One odd thing about the game is that, unlike other game show slots or any TV-show based slot, for that matter), the official logo was not used on the game, nor were there any real connections to the NBC version (i.e. music, likenesses of Howie or the Models, set graphics, etc...). At first glance, you'd think it was one of those generic video slots they like to use in the .01-.05 cent banks of machines at most casinos.

One cool thing about the machine is that it had buttons that allowed you to raise or lower the console containing the screen and "bet" buttons to a comfort level of your choice.

The images you saw are based on the Aussie version of the game....the sounds are taken right from the show...
