...or is it? While Prof. Steve Beverly's http://tvgameshows.net is functioning fine, if you type in www.tvgameshows.net you'll notice that it became available yesterday. Weird.

Actually, http://tvgameshows.net isn't working either, at least as I type this. If it's working for you, it's probably because your browser has it cached.

The WHOIS record for the domain shows that it's on "renewal hold," so it's not really available yet. Steve has until August 1st to renew it; if he doesn't, then it becomes available.

Too bad.
I was about to buy it, with all kinds of links to Klauss' site instead. :P

No doubt Beverly let this little thing go by while he's preparing to be a commentator on the GSN "50 Greatest Game Shows" shows, no doubt. Nice going, Steve.

Oh, it is speculation--but I wouldn't put it past him to have been bugging Cronin and the producers from the moment he first heard about this project.

Oh, neither would I. I'm just afraid Cronin & Co. might actually have listened to him.

GSN Suits: "We're going to put out a seven-week series about game shows. Who all do we have on the rolodex to stick in front of a camera to blather on for a bit? No one? Hmph. Well, that Steve guy keeps hounding us, and he's been on Dateline and those other shows. We may as well use him."

Steve will get the gig because he creates his own hype, not because of any position of notoriety. He...was available.

No, we aren't :)

But if 20/20 looks upon the Perfesser as the World's Foremost Authority (didn't Prof. Irwin Corey have that title?) how can GSN do less? Then again, how many people (present company excluded) who aren't in the business can be called game show experts?

Me, I'd rather see Vin Scully and Dick Enberg discuss the challenges of "It Takes Two" vs. "Baffle."

Easy. "As a network whose specialty is the game show genre, we recognize that the Perfesser, while perhaps considered to be an expert by the mainstream media, is a product of his own hype. Therefore we will find an authority who will inject less of his idiotic politics into his commentary." Then they go out and hire Ottinger.

But that's the point. There are LOTS of us who are just as "expert" as the Perfesser is, and who can be much more impartial and have better journalistic ethics. But the Perfesser gets the phone call because he's convinced the people who place the phone calls that he's somehow more authoritative, and for pretty much no other reason.

Apparently, they're not going to Der Perfessor for just game show commentary, per the June 12th issue of Television Week, page 12:

QUOTE
Quicktakes: "Was the finale of The WB's 'Everwood' satisfactory?"

"The finale of 'Everwood' was more than enough to make viewers question the wisdom of The CW executives in not renewing the show for the new network. Warmth is something we have precious little of in television. The closing moments of 'Everwood' made us want to come back for yet another visit and heartbroken that our return trips will only be on DVD and cable repeats."

...Is there, like, some sort of federal comission I can register with about running a campaign to be the new Media Pundit for Game Show Commentary? I could really snag the swing voters by being a Michael Ian Black-type personality to his burnt toast.

Meanwhile, the Perfesser paid up and is back online.

Our long national nightmare is over. :)

What do you mean? The website is not back up yet, according to my surfing...
PsychoJason
Maybe he got hacked (again...).

It is back up for me. Try clearing your cache and reloading the page.

For those who don't check in with the World's Foremost Authority...

He got a double whammy this weekend, to use a game show term.

First, his domain company removed him for a few hours, then his hosting company took down the site without telling him after a hacking incident.

I'm not a big fan of the Perfesser but I really hate hackers.
