Great one guys judging it on the first episode.
I much prefer episode two over one, Take 2 for example nice new game board, so was any number.
I just wish Americans wouldnt judge it to the US versions, Plinko was well horride im sure there was a few complaints to ofcom who will no doubt ignore it.
Its just panto inspired 2nd episode the showcase was won, and music clearly inspired by panto was played.
The set is modern yes and bright yes it suites Joe, the prizes are cheap because its daily with a budget of £25,000 now thats not that much less than BPiR had weekly even with inflation!
The bought tacky expensive prizes because thing is the show here as the reputation of prizes beeing tat, and always will be.

I guess I might've been more prepared for a campy take on Price if they hadn't screwed up a few years ago and made Brucie's version brilliant.
I like the graphics and the energy, though. I'm going to try to find some way to keep watching (wink wink nudge nudge say no more), because I might still find it more entertaining than what Barker's doing these days (then again, foreign games tend to get an extra cool point fom me regardless).

I've just watched the first episode, I think this sums up the show pretty nicely.
They've clearly gone for the ironic angle for the show. Just listen to the voiceovers! I think the show's main problem is that it isn't silly
enough.
In answer to Clay's question, despite the truth that our version actually gave away huge and pretty good prizes for the time (in actual fact the original Crowther version was told off for breaking the limits on the amount that you were allowed to give away on a show), people seem to have a memory that what it actually gave away was pretty tatty and "novelty". That explains the silliness and novelty of a lot of the prizes of this version. They are, in effect, playing up to the false nostalgia.

I think he's saying that the rep Price has overseas is that the prizes have always been cheesy, and since (based on what I'm gathering from this thread) they're kinda going for parody with this version, the prizes are intentionally tacky.

The last showcase under $10,000 on the US version I can remember was in the 1993-94 season. The player's final total was $9900 and change(they'd won their one-bid item but not their on-stage pricing game), and I can remember how cheap that seemed back then. SHowcases under $10,000 were the norm in the 70s and into the mid 80s.

I agree, and I think a lot of the US criticism is coming from people who either don't get or don't like the fact that they've chosen this approach. It's only a travesty if you're expecting something that hews closer to the Bob Barker version (as Brucie did), and that's clearly not what they wanted to do.
Still, while ironic detachment is something you guys are better at than we are, it's a tricky thing to pull off in this genre. The best I've ever seen at being an engaging show while still pointing out the absurdities of the genre has always been the UK
Don't Forget Your Toothbrush, but that was more of a variety show than a game anyway. When you're playing a real game, it's hard to pull off "we know we're making a stupid, tacky show" when all the audience sees is "stupid, tacky show".

THE OKThe theme and set are nice. It fits the moderness that they are trying to convey, and it does kinda work.
Joe (ignoring his annoying voice) is not a bad host. He's new...he could get better with time.
The prizes are definatly cheaper than Bruce's, but with roughly HALF the budget, that's expected.
Peter Dickson, sounding great as usual.
The not-so OKThe asian-themed Plinko. WHY? I don't get it?
The "joke" prizes for Swap...I'm not sure this was meant to be a parody, but it came off as a giant joke that no one was really in on.
The showcase main prize. Huh?
It seems to me that the right elements are there, but it's definatley missing the hominess of Crowther's version and the glamour of Bruce's version.
It is however, an interesting interpretation.

Gee, that was...odd. The only positive here was the announcer. With those weird prizes, for a minute during Swap, I thought I was watching a MadTV parody of the show without Frank Caliendo as Rod and remakes of the American cues. Oriental Plinko? That's just not the right style for this game. The Win/Lose twist was mildly interesting, though. It was made more LMaD-ish with that Plinko "disk of desire" and the idiot bringing it out. The crowd clapping along to the theme was unique, I didn't know a knock-off of the rhythm of "Copacabana" could work on PiR, but I wouldn't bring it here. Was I the only one that noticed Joe looks like a dead ringer for Ozzy Osbourne’s son Jack? Overall, that was a bad first show. Thank goodness Bert’s Feud was much better. Then again, I've never seen a clip of Bruce's PiR, so what do I know?

To anyone grousing about the "joke" prizes in the Swap game...first IUFB today was a full-sized cotton candy maker. USPiR has had plenty of "dud" prizes (Doggone Good gas pump. Popcorn carts. That Hawaiis Finest crushed ice cart/squishee thing.)
I liked JPPiR. The nonexistant theme and discotheque 'Come On Down' music weren't my favorite but the rest was a younger, hipper, club-atmosphere BPiR.
The prizes were pretty much the same (I liked the gag line with the chocolate fountain), the format is 100% the same (right down to the graphics for the showcase).
As someone else said, the showcase is about $18,000 US and that thing at the end reminded me of the 6WD ATV. I'd love to have something like that...great fun where I live.

Fair-use quote from a Guardian ratings article behind a subscription wall:
Joe Pasquale made his debut as the new host of The Price is Right on ITV1 yesterday, with a double helping of the show at noon and 5pm.
At midday, Pasquale's Price is Right attracted 1.2 million viewers and a 23% share but lost out to BBC1's Bargain Hunt, which drew 1.4 million viewers, and Cash in the Attic, which took 2 million.
Later in the day, the squeaky voiced comedian faced even tougher competition, up against The New Paul O'Grady Show on Channel 4.
The Price Is Right was watched by 1.3 million viewers and drew a 12% share, while The New Paul O'Grady Show attracted 2.4 million and a 20% share.
------------------
Quick reminder: Paul O'Grady's the comic also known as "Lily Savage," the host of the most recent version of "Blankety Blanks" over there. His talk show used to be in the 5 p.m. time slot on ITV, but Channel 4 waved a wad of bills to lure him over, where he replaced Richard and Judy at 5 p.m.

There's a difference between those who merely enjoy knowing useless crap -- something I think most of us on this board have in common -- and those who believe that such useless crap is integral to their very existence and therefore should never be changed. When you see too many of the latter, it's easy to make the mistake of lumping them in with the former. Occasionally it bears repeating that most of us would not, say, throw the TV out the window at the slightest change in a product's price. :-)
