Full Version: TPiR Cliffhangers cue up!
Game Show Forum > Discussion Boards > The Big Board
Casey Buck
The rumors of The Audio Booth's death were exaggarated; actually, no one has submitted any material in about 9 months, so I couldn't update it.

Anyways, the entire Cliffhangers yodel cue (off a Swiss Mountain Music LP) is now up. Enjoy!

You know the place (in the signature).

To quote Peter Griffin: "That is FREAKIN' SWEET!"

Thanks Casey! Keep it up the good work!

Can you provide us with the information we'd need to fill out the ID3 tag for it, for those of us that use iTunes? Specifically, the track name, the artists, the name of the album, and the year it was published?

(I dunno if you actually recorded it off of the actual album or traded for it or what you did.)
TimK2003
F. N. AWESOME!!!

And I was just starting to get tired of the background music I currently use for my answering machine message. ;-p Thanks for the effort!

I can't help with most of that, but the album is Swiss Mountain Music.
mmb5
It's the first track of the second side of the album. Whether you want to call that track 12 or track 1 is entirely up to you. The name of the ditty is "On the Franches Mountains", it's production # is Captiol T-10601 and the year is 1967.

Also, if you want just the yodel, and a little cleaner, click this link to get to a different link.

Captain Allmusic to the rescue! Thanks, Mike.

So am I to assume that there are no artists of record on this thing?

Is this it?

http://www.ioffer.com/i/1960-Swiss-Mountai...c-Album-2121482

If so, I can BARELY make out some artist information just beneath the title. Maybe. It might not be.

You guys have made a Cliffhangers fan very happy. Thank you so much!

I have a copy of the LP, and here's what it has for "On the Franches Mountains"

ON THE FRANCHES MOUNTAINS
Jura Bernois Country Dance With Yodelling
The Jura Orchestra

And for those of you being *really* geeky, Jura Bernois is not a person. It's the part of Switzerland that one of my set of ancestors came from.

I would pay $1,000 for every existing copy of this record which isn't owned by a TPIR fan.

Just to state what might not be obvious... while I am a TPiR fan, I do enjoy what would be considered specialty albums. I did listen to this whole LP and did enjoy hearing the music. I didn't spend that much on it to start with, around $10 including shipping. But, your statement is essentially dead on, and I do wonder how many people who aren't Price fans do own a copy...

Kevin Prather
I imagine some aspiring yodelers may have a copy.

No one else, though. :)
Gus
Is this the same track TPIR uses for trips to Switzerland? Or is it another track on the same album?

(Or neither?)

(Probably neither.)
remlap
This might help Gus.
Gus
AKA "Yes."

The next question, logically, would be, have they ever played Cliffhangers for a trip to Switzerland, and if so, did they use the instrumental for the cue?

(Y'know, cause then, it'd be funny.)

(I know, it wasn't worth asking.)

(I'll shut up now.)
chris319
Somewhere in the Swiss Alps are some obscure yodelers in their nineties, blissfully unaware that a) their song is a cult hit in the U.S., and b) they are owed millions of dollars in residuals by Mark Goodson Productions.

Once they were owed more than $25 from G-T (and by Slots Maker IGT in recent years), them yodellers went the way of Hans and jumped right off the cliff. ;-p

Craig Karlberg
Thanks for the Cliffhangers cues guys. I always wondered how they started the yodeling portion of the cue when Hans starts his asscent up the mountain. The yoldeling part starts at the :45 mark & repeats 2 times. The next time around at about the 2:00 mark, the yodeling starts up again. That makes me wonder if they start Hans at the first or second yodeling start. I think it begins at the first yodel set.

The same way they start Bean Stalker at :33 and Rye Bred magically jumps from 1:02 to :16.

You're a troll. You couldn't be this big of an absolute moron and still perform the basic human functions required to remain alive.

I've always wondered how Craig manages to type on this board. Does he use the eraser end of a pencil and the hunt-and-peck method, or does he set his fingers on the home keys? Or is it a combination of the two? I wonder which Shift key he used to make those capital letters. I suppose he used the right one for the keys on the left side of the board and the left one for the keys on the right side. Of course, he could have hit Caps Lock before each letter, then hit it again afterwards. That makes me wonder what method he used. I bet he used the Shift key.
clemon79
I've always wondered how he avoids being electrocuted by his keyboard from the drool.
chris319
Cool it.

Reminds me of the same line for US fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, although no one dresses up at the TV tapings in Swiss garb yodelling.
uncamark
The cut's from a Capitol Production Music album--correct? Granted, whoever wrote this might get money if it's used in a movie or a scripted TV show, but it seems to me that that in this instance, way back then it was just part of the Capitol Production Music library that CBS paid either a one-time fee or an annual license fee for, so the composer may never've seen any money directly from its use on "TPIR." But I could be wrong.

If it is a Capitol Production Music stock library piece, that will explain why it's the only non-Score/Kalehoff cue from the 70s that's still heard today--stock library music has that advantage.
Jimmy Owen
A radio station I worked at in the early '80s had a Capitol Production Library. Never knew the "Cliffhangers" theme was on it (don't know if we had that particular record), but I did find the "Real People" end theme on one of the records, which were dusty from years of non-use. The prod guy seemed to prefer the Pepper-Tanner library for spots.

I didn't have the foresight to tape any of this stuff and the station has changed hands many times since I worked there.

Casey's Audio Booth, the page discussed in this thread, has been out of commission, it seems, for a while now, but the cut can be found on TQ's themes site, under P for Price is Right. Only caveat is that all the stuff on that site is in Real Audio format; I personally don't mind, but I know some people do, and if ever I need something from there as a wav or mp3, I use a nifty program called ra to wav recorder.

That's a pretty cool page! I've never heard some of that really old school music, and some of it I remember from when I was little. Thanks for the link!

dbPowerAMP can convert with the proper codec from their site. (As a lark for a friend, I converted several Feud cues to .ogg and put them into the Yahoo! Family Feud game. It turned out pretty good if I say so myself.)

You can also convert RA audio files to MP3 files using YouTube Downloader at: youtubedownload.altervista.org.

Once you download and install the application, click on the radio button that says to 'Convert video (previously downloaded) from file. Then click on the 'Convert to' drop-down menu. Select MPEG Audio Layer (MP3). Then click on the ellipsis (...) button next to the 'Select video file', and select the folder that contains the music files you want to convert. Once the folder is selected, select the RA file you want to convert. Then click OK. You will then choose the quality of the MP3 file to convert (Low...Medium...Optimal...High). The higher the quality, the larger the file. Then click OK.

Once you convert the audio files, you can now import them into iTunes or your iPod. MP3 files actually use up less disk space than WAV files. Hope this helps.

Just for the record, if you're gonna bump an old thread, this is EXACTLY the way to do it. Bumping it for a good reason (to elicit an update to an outdated link) is always better than starting a new thread, so well done. :)

On that note, welcome to the board.

For those of us who don't want to mess with RealAudio, there is this page, which contains a whole lot of Price cues.

All posts are supposed to be relevant to game shows. We don't have a rule against bumping, we don't have a rule against political discussion, and we don't have a rule against posting in the "wrong" category. These issues are not covered in the E.R.s and deliberately so. They are allowed, the only qualification being that they be relevant to the topic of game shows.

Excuse me for calling you out publicly, but actually, yes, we do. We have said numerous times that, among other things, clips belong in the clips subforum to make them easier to find, and spoilers belong in Show Summaries to ensure that people who haven't yet seen a specific show don't have it spoiled for them.

We may not say it in the ERs, and we may not throw people in the Isolation Booth whenever it happens, but that's no reason to encourage people to post wherever they like with the expectation that we'll sort it out.

Enough.

I'm not "encouraging" anyone to post recklessly, David. That is the entirely wrong word to use.
